Dinner and Drinks in DC

While I was in DC visiting one on my middle/high school friends, Amy, we got to go out for drinks on several occasions. This isn’t something I do a lot of at home, (a big night out for me is a glass of wine or – whoa there – two at the Wine Loft) so I was excited to try some yummy creations. The drinks we had in DC did not disappoint.

The first night, we went to The Atlas Room for a late night small bites dinner and a drink. Amy knows the bartender and swore by his drinks. While she recommended their Clover Club, I’m not too keen on egg whites in my drinks so I ordered a sidecar which was a good call.  Typically made with cognac and lemon juice, this drink went down so smoothly and had a warm, rich flavor that was brightened with the addition of the citrus.

We also split two of their plates, the Pulled Dark Meat Flatbread and the Grilled Vegetable Gratin. Oh yes, they were so good.

On Saturday night, Amy’s roommate, Amy, and I went to an improv comedy show. The theme was “I confess…” so everyone in the audience wrote down a confession and then the actors pulled confessions out of a jar and themed the show around the confessions. They were pretty hilarious and the actors even pulled two of ours out of the jar. No, I will not tell you what the show was about – that would give away our confessions!

After the show, we went to one of the currently hot DC restaurants – Lost Society. I had the U St Cocktail (pictured in the middle) which had blueberry puree, Grey Goose vodka, citrus, honey, and sparkling wine. Again, a yummy drink that did not disappoint. For dinner, we indulged in delicious food.

We shared an appetizer of Mussels and Fries. I’ve never had mussels before and was worried I wouldn’t like them (I’ve always thought they would be like oysters which I’m not into). I’m so glad I tried them though – they were delicious. The mussels were in a very flavorful broth.

For dinner, I had a salad of kale, balsamic vinaigrette, pine nuts, pineapple, and aged gouda. I wasn’t crazy about the pineapple but the rest of the salad was fantastic. With my salad, I had gnocchi with broth butter sauce. Mmmm. Having the two together was great – some veg and some very rich and very garlicky gnocchi. Both of my dining companions enjoyed steak and I tried bites of their mac and cheese and scalloped potato sides – also very good.

I’m a sucker for creme brûlée, so for dessert I had the lemon rosemary creme brûlée. Gah – so good!

It was a delicious dinner and drinks with some truly fabulous ladies! I would highly recommend both restaurants if you are in the DC area and looking for some delicious eats.
