While Jill was out at an event this evening, I decided I would take the opportunity to preview some fresh foods for the summer season. I threw together a rough salad of spinach, blackberries, edible flowers growing in my garden right now, and ricotta salata I picked up from the Sweet Grass Dairy Cheese Shop in Thomasville, Georgia. I grilled fresh corn in its husk along with skewers of top sirloin, onion, bell pepper, and grape tomatoes.
How better to enjoy summer foods than with a seasonal brew? To accent the blackberries in the salad, I poured a Blue Moon Blackberry Tart Ale.
I am a huge fan of blackberries, but I actually prefer them more in savory dishes than I do in sweet dishes. Blackberries are perfectly paired with black pepper, salty cheese, and red meat. For a quick snack, I crumbled up some of the ricotta salata and tossed it with fresh blackberries.
